Become an Ambassador
How does it work?
Once you have submitted your application to become an International Student Ambassador, you will be contacted by the Ambassador Program Coordinator to set up a time to conduct a short training. Once you have completed your training, you will essentially be "on-call" for requests throughout each semester. When the Ambassador Program Coordinator receives a request from a faculty, staff, or RSO member that aligns with your areas of expertise, you will receive an e-mail from the Program Coordinator with the details of that request and asking if you are interested in presenting. Once you have agreed to the terms of the request, your information will be passed along to the requesting faculty, staff, or RSO member so that the two parties can make contact and work out the finer details of the request. Once a request has been fulfilled, both the ambassador and requester will be asked to complete a short summary report to be submitted to the Ambassador Program Coordinator.
Expectations
- Be a student in good academic, disciplinary, and immigration standing at Illinois State University.
- Be available for various campus and community needs throughout the year upon request
- Be knowledgeable about your home country
- Be outgoing and involved in campus activities
Responsibilities
- Public Speaking: Once requested, Ambassadors are responsible for preparing the content/knowledge regarding the topic they will be speaking about. This may include classroom presentations, panels, etc.
- Activity Engagement: Ambassadors may be asked to participate in program activities, such as round-table discussions or trivia games.
- Communication: Ambassadors will be responsible for communicating directly with university faculty, staff, and student leaders. Ambassadors will also be responsible for routine communication with the Ambassador Program Coordinator.
